The Manitoba Book Awards/Les Prix du livre du Manitoba Enters Restructuring Period in Support of Long-Term Planning

November 23, 2023

The Manitoba Book Awards/Les Prix du livre du Manitoba has been celebrating excellence in Manitoba writing, publishing, storytelling, book design and illustration for more than three decades. Over the past five years, a coalition made up of the Winnipeg International Writers Festival, Association of Manitoba Book Publishers, Winnipeg Public Library, and Manitoba Writers’ Guild has been responsible for the book awards, and has worked hard to create new efficiencies while navigating emerging challenges, from pandemic disruptions to changes in available resources.

These challenges must be addressed, so after careful consideration, the coalition will use the 2023/24 awards cycle as a restructuring period. This hiatus will allow the coalition to undertake some strategic planning to help identify a strong path forward. To further this initiative, the Manitoba Book Awards/Les Prix du livre du Manitoba will not be accepting submissions this Fall; books published in 2023 will be eligible in the next cycle.

The awards play a vital role in celebrating and recognizing Manitoba authors and books. The current challenges require strategic solutions, planning, and reimagining a new approach.

Thanks to the awards’ partners, sponsors, and the community at large for the support as the coalition undertakes this important phase. We look forward to sharing a renewed and vibrant Manitoba Book Awards/Les Prix du livre du Manitoba at the end of this cycle.
